Well it does provide some heat, so you can turn down the house temperature just little bit, and keep a fireplace burning in the room you do stay. But this is all in theory, in reality we never turn down the temperature just because we use the fireplace.
If you have a wood-burning fireplace, then you are in luck: that does provide a lot of heat, enough to heat up an entire room.
I used mine all the time last winter, this winter, only a couple of times so far.

I've heard that fireplaces are for the heating supplement in the familly room during cold winter.I really want to know when or how often do you guys use the fireplace? is it just a decoration ?
