Round-way ticket only applies to Canadian Citizen. It doesn't matter if you are a Chinese Citizen.
If a CA citizen goes to worlk in China for two years, he/she should buy a round-way ticket too. They suppose this person would take vacations.
Air Canada checks it very strictly (off course, still some people didn't get caught), please don't take it for granted.
You cannot use Chinese passport to leave Canada and use Canadian passport to enter Canada. The Customs makes sure that your two documents are identical. I have a good friend who met this problem.

I really doubt this is true. My father went to Canada using a one-way ticket from China to Canada. The immigrant officer did not ask him why he held a one way ticket to enter Canada for family visit since his visa just last 6 months.
People has option to buy two of the one-way ticket. One leave Canada another one return Canada. This should be no of the business of government. I guess your friend might be catched for some other reason but not just due to a one-way ticket.
