Note: In July 2001, the Bank of Canada shifted emphasis to
its overnight rate from the bank rate as the benchmark
indicator of monetary policy. In October 2000, the Bank of
Canada announced it would set eight fixed dates per year, as of
2001, for announcement of its interest rate decisions. This
replaced a system in which rate adjustments could be announced
on any business day in the year.
