ideally Mac is better for the beginer, it comes with whole package os and apps, less problems and security issues, most devices should work fine without settings and the "drivers", plus new intel base Mac can run windows XP. but you must think carefully before you switch to Mac, because after you are familiar with mac, you wouldn't want to go back windows any more
