Have you actually seen a Medela Pump In Style? Seriously the only part that touches your body is the suction cup, if you are using a brand new or sterilized kit, how on earth could that transmit umm "AIDS, HebB and other fatal diseases"??

"Internal diaphragm", that's a big word, exactly how can this "internal diaphragm" transmit viruses is beyond me. Unless AIDS, HepB or other fatal diseases are transmitted by air, I really can't see how this is possible.

Please enlighten me, I really do want to understand the logic behind this.
Internal diaphragm is a part in the Pump In Style model that cannot be replaced, removed, or fully sterilized. Similary, the other smaller Medela electric pumps also have motor parts that cannot be replace, removed, or fully sterilized. Because the milk does pass through these parts, and if the person who used the pump before had a cracked nipple and carried the diseases, then her blood would have passed through these parts, and contaminated the parts, and any milk that passes through the same parts when you are using it, will also be conteminated, and then you give the contaminated milk to your child, so the disease will be passed to your child. If your child is infected and s/he has blood in his/her mouth when you breastfeed him/her, and you also have a cracked nipple, then you get the disease from the child etc..etc..

Seriously, I don't really think anyone should risk a child's life to save a hundred bucks. If the health department and the manufacturer already said that it will spread disease, they are really serious about it.
