I bought several sets of vcd from China (dian4 shi4 lian2 xu4 ju4), but I can not open some of them. I think because the file names are in Chinese, but my laptop uses Window 2000 English version, which can not read/find the files (even I can read Chinese through IME or asian2000). I can not rename them since on vcd, and for some files can not even copy to the hard drive (then rename it). Any experts have ideas what I can do to enjoy these vcds without install a Chinese Windows (which I don't like to do)? Thanks in advance.

Ya, sure they are vcd. I tried both real player and media player, but do not work. Some of them 10-20 sets, even 40 ji. Some are movies, like Pearl Harbour. The one, yi3 tian1 tu2 long2 ji4, I have to copy into the hard drive first, then rename it to watch one by one, making people tierd.

I do believe you can open it using DVD player which made in China. My computer can open any Chinese VCD. By the way, I have some Chinese TV serials too, want to exchange to watch? send email to kafg230@yahoo.com

首先，你要确定它们的文件类型。大多数vcd是有文件的，浏览这张光盘，就像普通的光盘一样。视频文件都很大。一般结尾有dat,wmf,rm等等。如果你能找到这些文件，你肯定是可以看的，除非光盘本身有问题。播放器有很多种，根据文件类型选定播放器。注意，现在有一种新的压缩技术叫MPEG4，你需要下载相关插件才可以，否则可能只有声音，没有图像。

如果是因为文件名是汉字的问题，其实win2000是内嵌多语言的。control panel, then Regional Options.在这里你可以修改语言设置。就不用别的中文支持软件了。
