1) You'd better get US license. Perhaps you don't need to take road test, depending the state you stay at. Just keep your US license for 2 years, you can change it to G license in Ontario later.

2) Don't go back for G2 exit road test, not worth the money. Canadian road test is way more expensive than US.

3) You can rent a car, Canadian credit card/driver license are acceptable, however, the credit card company will change it to C$$, and charge a small percentage of the amount.

1) Yes call Amex, they can issue you an US credit card based on your Canadian Amex credit history.

2) I would suppose it falls under state transportation agency where you are residing.

Thanks for Mr. Hu and Jian Jian's help. I got my TN visa today. The whole process takes only 20 minutes. When I got the visa, the officer asked me whether I was going to the SSN office currently. I told him yes and then he gave me a map and showed me how to get there. He is very patient and nice.

About credential assessment: since I need a rush service, I mailed my application of the degree evalution to ICAS directly and then they mailed it back to me the second day. Of course, I payed more money.

About the passport for applying for SSN: I only used the Canadian passport (I got it today) for the application. They don't ask any questions.

两年以上-- it didn't happen to me.

BTW,according to the new law in Canada, you have to give you old (Canadian)passport back when you apply new one. I guess the SSN official made his/her own rule...

YOU WILL HAVE YOUR OLD CANADIAN PASSPORT BACK, JUST HAVE SOME SMAAL HOLE IN IT. HAVE YOU CHANGE ONE YET??

But they cut an angle off your old Canadian passport to signify "void". I've done this twice already.

It was a little bit of a hassel to get the credit history over to US, but Amex seems to be the only one out there that can do this, since Amex is a global company.

Once you got one credit card, the rest is easy.

Ya, just got my Amex blue.

Amex provides special program for Canadians in US. My 1st application was refused for the reason of "not enough credit score", in fact, it's the call center lady sent my application to the wrong category, although I claimed myself as existing customer and provided my card # in Canada. I called the service number again, re-direct my application, faxed my bank statement as prove of current address, then got the card in a week.

最近身边不少朋友拿到绿卡，耳闻了一些新情况：

美国联邦政府修改了有关法律以杜绝雇主利用绿卡申请虐待员工。递交绿卡申请６个月后，申请人将从移民局得到Labor Card（劳工卡），这样，申请人可以更换工作而无须改变签证，只要移民局check employment reference的时候有工作即可，不必是递交申请时的同一雇主。

用Google研究了一下NAFTA，我的理解是，没有严格规定学位必须是CS,相关科目EE或者数学学位应该也行。

此贴很有用。
另外，再补充两点，
1，(只限于engineer position)，不论你的工作的Title是什么，一定要强调你的工作性质就是Engineering。
2，移民官有时会问你的职位是否和management有关，(business management or people management)，此时要小心，一般就说你只是干活的，不是manager。


另外，有几个问题请教，
1，从TN转H-1或L-1 VISA有什么注意事项，多长时间后可以开始转H或L签证。
2，已经拿到TN签证，并在美国工作，当把配偶办到美国时有什么注意事项。

跟美国海关打交道真的是life learning experience.

今天去更新签证,没有带文凭的英文翻译件,被打了回来.前两次签证,海关的人根本就没有要英文copy,有原件和evaluation就够了,没想到今天被那家伙突然袭击.可气的是,第一个TN就是在那家伙手里拿的,以前不要,不等于今天他不要.真让人无语了.

大家注意:渥太华民工赴美务工手册版本已经升级到1.3--supporting documents增加了文凭英文翻译件.
