This community might be a little bit small to form such a discussion group. For that purpose, you'd better to check out well-known c++ discussion group or mailing list, in English, or in Chinese language which are hosted in China.

I think fisher just want someone in Ottawa and their interest is C++, not only for discussing C++, but also networking.

My idea is that we can make a group of people as many as possible. I noticed that most of our fellows are single fighters (me too). Because of our limited communication and reading skills, it is slower for us to get new skills than our native coworkers. Many of us use only limited resources of a programming language. Life is not that easy for our fellows. Looking around and see how many people we know are either laid-off or even do not have jobs although they are smart enough in their working areas. If we can share our coding experiences, all of us will get much better. If we can not profit from each other, it is very unfortunate. Do not forget there are not many people around who take care of us. Sure we can learn from online forums too. However, direct cooperation will be much more beneficial. We can even further exchange some codes and help each other finish projects on time. Instead of always eating or playing around, why do not we work together?

Because I am using C++ everyday, I wish to have a C++ group. I would be more than happy to join other groups if there are some. This is only an idea. Wish you guys have more comments.

if just for sharing experiences, answering questions, google groups are good enough.
Assuming you created a msn/yahoo group for c++, It would be just another google group. experts don't monitor it, newbie's questions
don't get answered, it would die eventually.

if you really want to contribute, why not leading some open source projects and get experts and newbies involved.

i.e. a tax return software, a personal communication utility, an IP phone...

I know you are right, upstairs!
But here you know, job is difficult to find, why not create one group we are all interested in, we can help each other and to find job or we can create job by ourselves?
And in Ottawa or Canada we can make more friends, it is good thing! I don't think it is only a C++ group.

I believe open source projects will have great help on hungting jobs and creating new opportunities, what HR ppl mostly talk about is EXPERIENCE. think about this, when you look for a job, the employer asks you "do you have related experiences", you say "hey, Eclipse development is under my lead"

办一个好的C++论坛真的很难。我见过的水平最高的C++论坛当属http://www.allaboutprogram.com/。我自认为自己的C++水平在自己接触过的人中是最高的，但是与abp的高手相比只能算是入门者。abp的创建者初衷是将abp办成C++高手之间交流的论坛。但是abp的衰败也缘于此，水平比较低的初学者无法参与，论坛人气太低。就象上面有人说的一样，很多C++程序员是single fighter，比如我如果遇到问题的话首先就是MSDN，然后Google，或者CodeGuru或者CodeProject，不是不愿意问问题，而是知道不会有人回答。现在abp讨论的更偏向于逻辑，而不再是语法。
另外一个经常去的Java论坛JavaEye，水平很高，人气也很高。原因之一是java程序员之间比较容易找到共同语言，特别是现在大部分都是J2EE;而使用C++的程序员太杂了，作什么的都有，很难对对方的专业有较深的了解。
