为什么众多人关心一个放弃生命的博士，却不曾关心这个被遗弃在多伦多的新生华裔婴儿
Do we truly respect of life ? or Do we define the life of a Doctor degree holder is more valuable than an innocent child? why what called attention by main stream medias, did not call Chinese community's response?

我想起了Baby Rachel Grace

一年前的这个时候, 一个新生的女婴儿, 伴随她的只有一个纸箱, 被发现遗弃在Scarborough的一个华人较积聚的教堂旁。 后来，　Scarborough Grace Hospital给她做了体检等程序后，　由警方交给Children's Aid Society of Toronto，　由一位名为Rachel的护士暂时照应 （这也是Baby Rachel Grace的名字由来），以便进行下一步的法律程序。

这是一个初生女婴，一个初生华裔女婴，据主流媒体报道，当有英文记者关切地问及小女婴的情况是， 发言的警察还开玩笑地回答：“小女婴真是十分可爱，健康，　浓密的一头黑发， 比我的头发还茂密呢”。　不同的只是她一出生就面临人一生最大的心灵痛苦之一：她将或许永远不知道自己的生身父母，究竟是谁？　她没有任何过错，　为何生身父母要遗弃她？她人生第一个ＳＨＥＬＴＥＲ，只是一个旧纸箱，第一眼的世界是孤独而苍白的，　没有妈妈的乳房，　也没有爸爸的臂腕．．．除了饥寒，　除了无助．．.

记得当时从英文媒体上得知警方的呼吁，让社区为Baby Rachel Grace捐献一些急用的衣物玩具，　后来查了华文媒体，除了最初一点的转载， 发现华裔社区反响不大，　于是在周围一些妈妈和几位我不认识的妈妈爸爸们的帮助下，我们为无辜的Baby Rachel Grace送去了众多妈妈爸爸们的一点心意，　以及同为华裔父母－我们的爱，这些妈妈爸爸们不想声张，只是默默地想为这个无辜的的新生华裔婴儿留下一点温暖，　他们更不想要通过此文来表现这件已过去一年多的事情，　他们只想让Baby Rachel Grace 记住，　不管她的生身父母为了任何不堪言说的原由遗弃了她，　在她人生的开头，　仍然有同为黑头发黄皮肤的华裔的妈妈爸爸们Care　about her and love her! 让这些妈妈爸爸们很宽慰的是， Children's Aid Society of Toronto 为Baby Rachel Grace 做了一个特别的纪念册，其中也包括有华裔的妈妈爸爸们签名的信还有礼物等的照片，　Aid Society of Toronto希望这些纪念会给她一些温暖和爱的记忆并伴随她成长！ 读到Children's Aid Society of Toronto来信的那一天，　这些妈妈爸爸们很感动， 很开心， 不是觉得我们做了件什么了不起的好人好事，而是感谢Baby Rachel Grace 让我们平凡的生活有多了一件有意义的事情。

我们祝愿Baby Rachel Grace健康成长， 我们也祝愿每一个生命得到同等的尊重！因为每一个生命不仅是珍贵的，也是同等珍贵的。

there is nothing wrong to value a doctor more than a baby. This is the way chinese are educated for thousands of years. eduacted people earns more, can be a powerful man, has more influence and can do much good or bad to the society. in one word, an educated person should and could be somebody in the future. what can you expect from a babay in average? there is no way to repect a mere person in china which has a large population. It is just not the time. once we are a rich country like jap or a small contry like isreal, then life can be chreished and respected. This is the bitter truth. Life is cheap in china. to be respected you have to stand out from the crowd. Education is perhaps the only way to differeticate your self from the vast majority if your family backgroud is average. Don't blame people.

No, you are wrong. The PHD is dead, while the baby is still alive.
The family of PHD had been broken, while someone is building a new and possibly sweet family for the baby. There are huge differences between 2 cases.

i know. i just try to explain why people like to talk more about the ph.d case than the baby. the baby is born in canada. she sure will have a much better life than most of the immigrants. She has a bright future. no need to worry about her.

can a life be evaluated? If yes, what is the standard? we were taught a life becomes valuable because of its contribution to the society or mankind. if no, how can you explain some people is more important than others?

another reason the doctor get more attantion is he is a prototype. most of the immigrants can find his/her own destination/path/experiences on him. his sad story can happen on anyone of us. we all suffered the same to some extent. he is one of us. it is natural we show our sympathy to one of us.
what do we in common with the baby? do you feel the connection? just because she is chinese in race? too many chinese in this world that need more help than her.

or if you happen to be one of the less fortunate people, what can you do to change your own life?
