前屋主欠费需由现屋主还？

最近接到OTTAWA市政府的一封信,说前房主欠下的水费需由我（现房主)付清。不知大家遇到过这种情况没有？应该如何处理？多谢！

Talk to your lawyer who did the transcation for you. It is his responsiblity to make sure all bill were paid.

be carefull, if you are calling to 律师, they also charge you 电话 fee for 5 to 15 minutes of lawyer fee

建议你的朋友send an invoice to his lawyer, charge him (0.5 hours * $150 hourly rate) + $7 shipping and handling = $82.00, plus GST, for reading his invoice, and writing him a check

律师自己份内的事没做,现在补上,还要再向客户要钱,显然没道理.如果真是这样,我是不会付的.我觉得应该向律师要补偿.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I've faxed the letter to my lawyer right after I got the letter. So far, did't hear anything back from my lawyer.

The City of Ottawa letter says:

The City has recently been advised that you are the new owner of the property described above.

This notice is to advise you that there was an outstanding water account balance for your property from the previous owner. According to the Municipal Act 2001, Section 398 (2), unpaid costs of water supply and distribution can be recovered as a lien against property. Therefore, this amount has now been transferred to your water account.
