I bought a house a few year ago at very good price. The previous Indian owner occupied it for 1 year and 10 months. I changed almost everything changeable. I threw all old carpet and replace the vinyl floor in kitchen and bathrooms with ceramic tiles. I discarded the old stove and washed the hings by taking them off from the kitchen carbinets. I painted all walls, ceilings and cabinets. I changed all window curtains. And I installed an air exchange. After a few months of the air exchange installed, the smell was gone.

I'm sorry to hear that people have negetive impression on the smell of some Chinese. It's true that some Chinese mess their kitchens like in China. However I found that it happens usually in rented apartments/houses only. Most Chinese people will clean and cook carefully in their homes they bought to aviod value loss.
So you may not get so strong smell in a Chinese home as in Indian's. |
