Canadian dollar is closing in to a major breakthrough at 75c. Might happen tomorrow. After that We will see 77c soon.

Lonh term, people are talking about US rely on Alberta for its oil import. If this is true, you can expect a 1:1 dollar.

I am pessimistic to US dollor also. If the situation in Iraq doesn't improve very soon, you cannot expect rapid improvement in US econimic. It is strange why Canadian dollor is so strong with poor economic performance.

Personally, it is good. But not good for Canadian exporters. I don't know how important the role of exporting section plays in the overall Canadian economy.
CAD up => exporting down & importing up. It has an adverse impact on Canadian economy, especially when caculating the GDP since GDP = C + G + I - NX. NX is net exporting which equals export - import.
Also, higher CAD also leads to less direct investment.
But higher CAD attracts more skilled people to Canada and might benefit the economy in the long run. We will see....
It was said the most suitable rate between CAD & USD was 1.25 CAD = 1 USD

Canada have one of the best economic performance in the developed world:

1. It is the only G8 country that are running a budget surplus.
2. It also has the strongest emplyment growth in the past 2 years among G8.
3. It also runs a HUGE internaiontal trade surplus.

due to under-performing for the economy of the rest of G7,(not counting Russia, as Russia is not a developped country), Canada's economy excels. Basically, you know it is not very easy to achieve a 3%-increase in GDP for a country with per capital GDP of more than 20K USD, especially for countries like Canada. She depends too heavily on US's economy.
One thing I must mention, for 2002, Canada has a GDP of more than 1 trillion CAD, as I mentioned above, GDP = G + C + I + NX. How much was the NX? 30 billion USD? That is comparatively small as to the whole GDP. You know, there are no big countries who can achieve a per capital GDP of 20000USD just by exporting. Everyone has to, in the long run, let the C(consumer spending) be the primary accelerator for economy
