What you do is something like this: You pay regular tax in the US and you pay only the margin for Canada when you work in the US. For example, if you have to pay $50.00 in Canada based on your salary there, but you have already been taxed $38.00 in the US, you pay only $50-38=12. There is no double taxition, of course. |

I bet there must be a lot of Canadian citizens or PRs working in USA. Could you please share some information about how you file your taxes? Thanks! |

If I keeping paying Canadian income tax when working in US for 40 years, will I be qualified for OAS(Old Age Security) when I get retired ?
I do not physically live in Canada, however pay Canadian tax, does that mean I still live in Canada ( in other words, keep ties in Canada ?) |

You have to determine your residency status for tax purpose at the end of year, Canada or US. For the first year, you have lived in Canada for some time and then moved to US, generally you have to file tax in Canada. the next year, if you still have house, family member or other ties with Canada, you may still have to file tax in Canada(at higher rate). If you have completely untied with Canada, you may file in US. CRC has a booklet called how to determine your residence or similar title. You can go to the CRC tax office at Heron by Bronson (take transit to Heron)for more information. Don't worry, you will not be double taxed. Good luck.
