![]() -------------------------------------------- Nortel shares sink, but CEO's pay rises Reuters - February 29, 2008 Nortel shares sink, but CEO's pay rises: Scientific American TORONTO (Reuters) - Despite unsteady performance, a new round of layoffs and a plunge in its share price, Nortel Networks Corp <NT.TO><NT.N> raised the total compensation of chief executive Mike Zafirovski by about $1.8 million in 2007, regulatory filings show. Zafirovski, who has been steering the Toronto-based telecom equipment maker through a painful turnaround, saw his total pay rise to $10.1 million from $8.3 million in 2006, according to filings the company made with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission this week. While his base salary stayed relatively unchanged at about $1.3 million, the total value of stock and option awards rose to $6.4 million from $4.1 million in 2006. Zafirovski received no bonus during the year, same as in 2006. However, he also received non-stock incentives and "other" compensation, Nortel said. Nortel's shares have fallen on the Toronto Stock Exchange from C$35.10 to C$8.48 over the past 12 months, a decline of 76 percent. The company continues to deal with slumping demand for the telephone gear it makes, as well as competition from low-cost Asian rivals and an uncertain economic environment. Earlier this week, it announced a fourth-quarter loss of $844 million, largely due to a $1.1 billion noncash charge related to changes in its Canadian tax profile. Along with the loss, it announced it would shed 2,100 jobs -- mostly in North America -- and shift another 1,000 to low-cost locales like China and India. 按照以往NT裁人的惯例,R&D一般是重灾区.SALES和售后服务的一般影响最小.R&D里面做测试的,做LAB的,做非产品研究的(比如CTO下面的)和IT/IS的最危险. 北美3100人,估计所有想留下来的都铆足劲,想表现表现,显得自己比别人重要,本地人和英语说的溜的肯定有优势,大部分中国人都不在此列.你门应该能看到很多很DIRTY的OFFICE POLITICS.跟你们说这些猫腻和国内国营企业人事关系有得一比. 1)别以为你以前多卖力地给老板干活,掌握的技术比较多,卖力肯干,老板就会把你留下,说句不好听的,这世界缺了谁一样照转.只是快慢的问题. 要提前找下家.不管你现在有多风光. 2)中印加1000,北美减3100,你们自己想如果你是这些本地的员工会怎么看这些中印现在还在北美拿北美工资的?ANTI-CHINA/INDIA的SENTIMENT会很强烈,也许不会太露骨的表现出来,在背后这帮人会搞在一起嘀沽的,也许你的同一级的本地同事在名单公布前就知道谁要走人.关系好的,会暗示你,关系一般的就看热闹.和中国一样. 自己要留根弦.阶级斗争很残酷. 3)中国人之间不要内斗,靠挤压同胞,给上司说国人同事不是,即使一时得逞,你上司也会把你看得很低,总有一天,BOSS也会把你干掉的.中国人在这里不容易,互相留点口德.佛主会保佑你的. 4)C-LEVEL DIRECTOR和D-LEVEL MANAGER一般是穿一条裤子的,不要在C-LEVEL面前说你经理的过错. 如果真的对C/D LEVEL DIRECTOR/MANAGER不满意,给VP以上反映,公司内部的匿名SURVEY一定要好好利用,如果直接的经理/DIRECTOR被毙了,当兵的存活率就大大提高.NORTEL一帮当经理的,从Z.MAN到D-LEVEL的怎样败家,你们自己清楚,具体怎么做,你们自己把握 5)最后一点,如果真的轮上了,也别太悲伤,大丈夫坦坦荡荡,此处不留爷,自有留爷处.自己有本事和能力,是金子总要发光的.家庭孩子永远是最重要的,留下的不见得比走人的能力强,很多很有才的都轮上了,勇敢地走下去.希望大家度过难关. |

I heard it was
- 2 months continuous payroll payment - 3 weeks pay/per year of service - Vacation pay - extra special premium depending on your position/contribution/relationship The first round this year should have the similar one as before. With the worse financial situation and market, I don't know and doubt if NT can still give out decent package later. You need to check its planned restructuring charge in the 10-K 10-Q SEC form. |
