Or there isn't too much fooling at all because people worth to fool are as smart as those crooks themselves(its an efficient market,isn't it?),and people can be fooled are not worth to fool at all.The Wall Street crooks do have some cards to play,unfortunately the cards are given to them,not created by themselves. Here is how I understand "efficient market". Yes, to some extents, market is very efficient in a way that investors and traders can get in and out quickly enough with the help of internet and electrical paperless trading system. But the big manipulators have much broader resources and machines to implement their plotted manipulation. Small investors and shareholders are still very easy to be shaked out from the train. Back to all the news sources about NT from beginning of the year to now, almost 95%+ were negative. I have many years of knowledge and research on NT that makes me convinced that NT has "some" values, not worthless, s*cker, or BK candidate which are what these manipulators expect NT to be perceived. 40G is not a new technology, but Nortel has more news candidates like this 40G. I am not saying this news is irrelavant, instead I think mid-term play with certain protection on positions would be best. Talk about "fool" or "being fooled". No one is smart enough not being fooled at any chance. It is possibility which matters. When NT hit over-priced $100, mid or long term short/put would have edge over long/call; vice versa, long/call NT at $0.6-0.7 will have much larger winning possibility eventhough it could go (much) lower.

NT.TO hits C$6.3 new low again today (Mar 13, 2008) at TSX, it was dragged by Bear Stearn(BSC)'s emergent request (48 hours!) for FED and JP-Morgan's assistance to avoid being liquidated.
It is very close to the stage that weakest one in a sector could be out of business. CHINA lost $3-5B on BSC in 3 months!!! BSC meltdown will scare away Chinese investors for at least 3-6 months. |

你说的对,中信是$1B,今天中信说它不想玩合资了.看来钱还没有付出去,不过BLACKSTONE的就打水漂了.
中投在Morgan Stanley的$5B,看来要用来救火了,看中国还有没有信心继续玩下去. China's CITIC says not sure of Bear Stearns deal | Markets | Markets News | Reuters China's CITIC says not sure of Bear Stearns deal Sat Mar 15, 2008 11:31am EDT SHANGHAI, March 15 (Reuters) - China's CITIC Securities (600030.SS: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Saturday it could not guarantee it would complete a deal to invest about $1 billion in Bear Stearns (BSC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) given the U.S. investment bank's financial crisis. On Friday, Bear hammered out an emergency funding deal with the U.S. Federal Reserve and JPMorgan Chase, saying its liquidity position had deteriorated. "Our company has noticed the recent financing arrangement between Bear Stearns, JP Morgan Chase and other financial institutions, and we have also considered factors including the sharp fall in Bear Stearns' share price," said CITIC Securities, China's largest listed brokerage. "We cannot guarantee reaching a final agreement in the future," it said in a statement emailed to Reuters in response to media enquiries. Last October, Bear and CITIC Securities announced plans to invest about $1 billion in each other and form a joint banking venture in Asia. (Reporting by George Chen; Writing by Andrew Torchia) |

JPMorgan to Buy Bear for $2 a Share: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance JPMorgan to Buy Bear for $2 a Share Sunday March 16, 7:36 pm ET By Joe Bel Bruno and Madlen Read, AP Business Writers JPMorgan Says It Will Buy Ailing Bear Stearns in a Deal Valued at $236.2 Million NEW YORK (AP) -- JPMorgan Chase said Sunday it will acquire rival Bear Stearns in a deal valued at $236.2 million, a stunning collapse for one of the world's largest and most venerable investment banks. ADVERTISEMENT JPMorgan Chase & Co. said the $2 a share, all-stock deal has received the required approvals from the federal government and the Federal Reserve. Bear Stearns shares close Friday at $30 a share. The Fed will provide special financing to JPMorgan Chase for the deal, JPMorgan Chase said. The central bank has agreed to fund up to $30 billion of Bear Stearns' less liquid assets. At almost the same time as the deal for control of Bear Stearns was announced, the Federal Reserve said it approved a cut in its lending rate to banks to 3.25 percent from 3.50 percent and created another lending facility for big investment banks. The central bank's official meeting is on Tuesday. Before the emergency move to lower the discount rate, which is the rate at which banks lend each other money, the Fed was widely expected to again cut its headline rate by as much as a full point to 2 percent. The announcement from both the Fed and JPMorgan comes ahead of what some analysts expected to be a brutal day for global stocks. Already, before the announcements, New Zealand's markets opened drastically lower -- then began to recover after the deal was unveiled. A collapse of Bear Stearns could have created a further crisis of confidence in world financial markets amid a deepening credit crunch. JPMorgan's acquisition of Bear Stearns represents roughly 1 percent of what the investment bank was worth just 16 days ago. The deal represented a 93.3 percent discount to Bear Stearns' market capitalization as of Friday, and roughly a 98.8 percent discount to its book value as of Feb. 29. "The past week has been an incredibly difficult time for Bear Stearns," said Bear Stearns Chief Executive Alan Schwartz in a statement. "This represents the best outcome for all of our constituencies based upon the current circumstances."
