My opinion:
when he/she does not love you any longer, he/she has died.
He/she will die anyway, 他（她）只是比你早一步 die anyway.

I would rather imagine he/she is on a long long trip far far away from me, i.e. 上了月球 . He/She may or may not come back. What can you do for him/her? Nothing but best wishes!
