２００２年１２月２８日傍晚８时许，由渥太华地区八家华人社团联合举办的新年联欢晚会在当地的Ｎｅｐｅａｎ　ｓｐｏｒｔｓｐｌｅｘ拉开帷幕，虽正值北国寒冬，但大厅内却是热情洋溢，逾千名在渥太华工作和求学的华人、华裔到场参加了这一盛况空前的晚会，打破了历届华人社团活动人数的纪录。中国驻加使馆参赞褚广友先生应邀到会，并向全体来宾致词，勉励在场同胞发扬本民族吃苦耐劳的美德，为全体华人在加奋斗树立榜样。晚会一直持续至深夜１时结束，沉浸在舞乐中的来宾才意犹未尽的离去。
虽然是多个华人社团自发组织的活动，演出和筹备均是义务性质，器材和设备也是各社团自理，但晚会受欢迎的程度大大超出主办者们的预料，是继去年首次华人社团联袂举办“新年圣诞联欢舞会”大获成功之后，各社团再接再厉为渥京华人筹办的又一次大型活动，据晚会组委会成员之一的张瑞文先生透露，这一活动明年仍将如期举办，规模会比前两次更大，档次也会更高，准备也会更充分。
晚会在欣华中文学校献演的腰鼓舞的鼓声中开始，紧接着是东方艺术团的女声独唱《但愿人长久》，独特的舞蹈和名家宋词带给观众浓郁的本民族文化气息，令在座倍添思乡之情。两个孩子表演的相声虽然稚嫩，但观众仍然给予热烈的掌声以示鼓励。整个晚会歌舞并重，十几个节目民族特色鲜明，让人感到亲切和轻松，确实应该归功于组委们的巧妙安排。
组委会主席黄兴中先生在晚会开始后向笔者介绍了这次晚会的筹备过程和相关背景。这次活动由渥太华中国大专校友会、清华大学校友会、中华导报、健康时报、东方艺术团、北国歌舞团、欣华中文学校和“comefromchina.com”网站八家华人社团携手主办，目的一是为了在新年来临之际，以此活动为平台，将节日的欢乐带给当地深受北美经济萧条影响的同胞，二是从长计议，增加华人社区的凝聚力。
近两年来，北美经济不景气，尤其是高科技产业裁员严重，许多具有相关背景的华人受打击最大，为了让这些同胞在逆境中重拾信心，渡过难关，上述各华人社团义不容辞的肩负起了这个使命，他们独立策划了这一非盈利性质的大型晚会，活动的经费和场地也是自己解决，不仅在形式上充分体现了华人社区团结合作的精神；而且在晚会的组织和管理上也给人干练高效之感。
资金是任何社团活动的关键，组委会在成功出售了全部入场券之余，还联系了总共７家赞助商为本次活动慷慨解囊，共襄义举。同时黄先生也承认他们在争取政府的财政支持上，还做得不够，如果策划得体细致，可争取到的资源将更多，倘若这一目标得以实现，华人社团所提供的服务将大幅改善，服务的范围也将更为广泛。
值得注意的一个现象是，随着“comefromchina.com”网站积极组织当地华人参加各项有益身心的活动，社团的传统概念和存在形式正在发生巨变，该网站连续两届参与新年晚会的筹备和主办，将网络上的虚拟社区带到现实生活当中来，其中的意义非同凡响。
由于渥太华地区从事信息产业的专业人士构成了９０年代后期中国移民的主力，网上社区无疑是这些新移民沟通交流的最佳场所，“comefromchina.com”网站顺应这一历史潮流，经过两年多的尝试，已经成为渥太华地区人气最旺，影响力最大的虚拟社区，这一被教育界称之为“非官方自发形成的社区计划”，将越来越影响政府在公共政策上的资源调配，不仅有可能在争取政府拨款资助上带来化时代的突破，还可能为网络如何服务新移民提供宝贵的探索经验。

??? but why I felt this party was far away from well organized. It is good that so many people attended the party, but it's even worse when lots people saw things like this.

I think maybe next year it will be less people if orginizors do not really spend a lot of time to make it good.(At least I won't go.)

First it shouldn't just said how successful it was, it was not but chaos.

Second we should not only encourge also give some critical comments so that it would be better next time.

What do want from me, from us? Just because you spent a buck or two and you think you have the rihgt to demand a professional show? I don't think you can do that.

We are a bunch of volunteers and the equipment was provided by some of us as well, what more can we do for the time being? Sir, if you think you have such a brilliant idea about organizing a party, why don't you just show up next time and demonstrate how much genius is involved in your project plan, if you have one.

You think the party is a joke and a lie? I'm telling you, there's a show from CCTV coming up next month, enjoy yourself!

Critism is not always a bad thing, more critism means being cared about by more poeple, furthermore, this party is far away from a good organized party. I think 80-90% people who attended it will agree with me.

If somebody doesn't want to hear critism, he can do nothing better. Just like a country... ...

Anyway, I wish next year's party will be better.

Critism is not always a bad thing, more critism means being cared about by more poeple, furthermore, this party is far away from a good organized party. I think 80-90% people who attended it will agree with me.

Please, pay attention to other people's name! Criticism(Not Critism)is not a bad thing at all if it is not cynicism. 80%-90%? Come on, where did you get your stats?
