Carfax vs. Carproof
Hi all,
Recently I was shopping for a car and was doing extensive research on the Internet about how to get VIN check and such. I've seen quite afew people complaining about Carfax not reflecting the real history of canadian cars. Being skeptical, I went ahead and ordered one report from Carfax for a car I was interested in, and found indeed that the information was not quite complete as what the dealer had told me. I then called the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and they were able to provide me with more concrete info about the car. Later I came across CarProof, which claimed to aim for canadian market, and decided to give it a try again just to doublecheck the validity of the report. As it turned out, it had the same information as what I was told from the MTO, besides, it gave me the branding status (a mandatory requirement now in force in Ontario to make sure the car was not a non-repairable, salvage or rebuilt) of the car across the provinces if it was ever registered. I thought this might be of use to you guys, if you are finding Carfax not providing enough info, you may want to try www.carproof.com, here's the comparison table to show you what their sources are based on: http://www.carproof.com/comparison2.html Good luck shopping!
