Twenty new red-light cameras are being installed across the City, in addition to the thirty-four already existing red-light cameras. Road safety is a top concern of neighbourhoods across the City including Kanata North, based on the feedback I receive from residents. Council approved these cameras in the hopes to increase safety on our streets for everyone. Red-light cameras take two photographs; the first is taken when a vehicle is about to enter an intersection with a red light, the second photograph shows the offending vehicle in the intersection. The fine for running a red light is $260, plus a $5 service fee and $60 victim surcharge. For more information visit Ottawa.ca or call 3-1-1.

RADON GAS INFORMATION SESSION, NOVEMBER 21, 7 PM, MLACAK CENTRE, 2500 CAMPEAU DRIVE

Radon is a colourless, odourless, radioactive gas that occurs naturally from the breakdown of uranium in soils and rocks. It is widely found in homes across Canada, including in Kanata North. In a confined space radon can accumulate to high levels. Exposures to high concentrations of radon can increase a person’s risk of developing lung cancer.

Every two years I host a public information session on radon gas with assistance from Health Canada, the City of Ottawa and a number of radon professionals. This meeting is open to all residents, not just those in Kanata North, as radon is found everywhere. Please let your friends and neighbours across the City know about this information meeting. It will inform you and provide recommendations on how to test for radon and deal with it to ensure there is a safe level in your home.

RICHARDSON RIDGE SUBDIVISION NORTH OF WETLANDS – APPLICATION RECEIVED
Construction is ongoing in the Richardson Ridge subdivision, with construction of eight low-rise apartments along Terry Fox Drive. An application for a further phase, north of the existing development, has been received and is being reviewed. I’ll have some information at next week’s Town Hall Meeting and an official public meeting about it will be held later.
