DS is not good for kids(from parent's view). easy to carry and they could play anywhere and anytime.
DS is good for kids (from kids' point of view):D

When they have ipod touch, they won't even go back to touch that DS at all.
Let the kids choose, which one do they want (parent without thinking about the cost), ipod touch or any kind of ds(i/lite/3d)?

ipad is not good id either(my point of view)
let them play Wii sports games will be the best solution.
kind of like win win situation for both parents and kids.

lz's kids are in K, easier to use fingers on screen instead of a remote
wii sport, wii fit are great but you will find out that most of time they will play mario-....

actually kids only care about today, as long as they get a game to play, no matter what kind of system you provide them. it's the parents are worrying about tomorrow.
when you get a video game in home, you will start worrying that they play too much games and will try to find a way to restrict the time playing.

no, since you were already worried before you got the video game home so you put a rule there, "once a week". if your kids automatically just play "once a week", without you asking them to do so, you might get another worries, "are my kids normal?"
