Mitel takes axe to 35 jobs
By Sun Staff
For the second time in less than a week, a company owned by Ottawa billionaire Terry Matthews has chopped its workforce.
Mitel Networks sent home 35 workers on Wednesday, company spokesman Jon Carvill confirmed yesterday. The cuts, which were spread across the organization, were an expense-reduction exercise in the face of soft markets, he said.
Last week, March Networks fired 60 workers, or about 40% of its staff.
The cuts at the two companies come a little more than four months after they were awarded $60 million in federal funds under the Technology Partnerships Canada initiative
