在什么情况下, 房屋中的改建需要申报?

我一直都不知道在房屋中的改建,如地下室加房间,加厕所需不需要申报?如果是出租房呢?如不报, 有何后果?:blink:
 
if you move/add walls, touch plumbing(not including change faucets), electrical(new wires:)), open new windows, add big/higher decks etc. you need to apply building permission from city. check with ottawa.ca they should have a detailed list.
 
City有权要求你扯开所有新加的drywall,以便检查内部的电线、水管等。

为什么大部分人都不申报, 申报需要钱吗? 还是一旦申报, 你都要请有LICENSE 的人干?地税是否也随着长了?

We are going to buy a house around university to rent to students, , there are space to put more rooms, bathroom and even kitchen in it(basement), I am still wondering if I should apply for the permit or not. Does anybody know that how much more I need to spend on "the permit"? Thanks!
 
can you put in a separated entrances for your basement and if your windows in basement is big enough to be used as 2nd exit? if you put more rooms in your basement, will each room have its own window? you can put in a kitchen in basement, do you have room for a living room? how easy to fire separate between your main floor and your basement? now city allows to put in a basement apartment in a house (some lot size etc. requirements has to be met) and if you can do that, you can put 3-4 students in upper unit, and 3-4 students in lower unit, let two student groups sign their own lease that has all names on the lease, then you won't have a rooming house issue from the city. (please verify the info i typed in here with city bylaw:)). if you simply put in more rooms, you might get some trouble from city-bylaw for rooming house use, fire department for fire hazard/exit issue for rooms in basement, if you ever get some complains from your neighbor(s). further more, you will find there are very few insurance companies will like to insure your property if you tell them the truth that you're renting to students as rooming house, or if you get one, it won't be cheap:)

I never thought this question --"how easy to fire separate between your main floor and your basement?" I thought just lock the door.
