TORONTO – Media reports and public outcry has led Direct Energy to reverse a set of contract revisions just days after introducing them.

In the past month letters had been mailed out to customers of Direct Energy informing them of the contract change. The letter explained that on April 2nd, customers would be locked into a new agreement, that would force them pay for their old water tank if they want it removed. It would also apply to anyone who bought the house.

Currently, water tanks will be removed free of charge by Direct Energy.

Gunter Jacksch, a Direct Energy customer who lives south of Barrie, is fuming over the letter. “It’s a negative option,” Jacksch said, “you must call them if you don’t accept the new contract and that to me is a no no, an absolutely no no.”

Though Thursday afternoon, Direct Energy issued a statement reversing their decision on the contract changes. “we have decided to withdraw our letter and the proposed changes to terms and conditions. No changes to terms and conditions of our water heater contracts will occur at this time.”

Rob Comstock, Senior Vice President of Canadian Services for Direct Energy, apologized for causing confusion among customers, saying the company failed to communicate effectively. “I apologize wholeheartedly for the confusion this has caused and to our customers, we have not communicated this insitiative as well as we could have,” said Rob Comstock, Senior Vice President of Canadian Services. “I also want to say sorry to those who had difficulty getting through to us during a period of unprecedented call volumes. Please accept my apologies.”

3,4年前,加入他们一个service protection plan。说要是furnace有问题,都保修,包括labor and parts. 今年furnace有一点不太稳定,时启动,时停止。可能是传感器老化了,就打电话叫来查一下。来了一个修理工,打开炉子,看了一下,直接把heat exchanger给拆了,说是那个坏了。而且不保修,我一查合同小字,的确这个部件不包括。可是以前用起来不是不能加热.因此,买他们的service protection plan可以说没什么用。

自己买个热水器得了,租不划算。一千多点,用十几年。平均到每年不到一百。
现在租一般每个月都在二十以上,每年两百多三百,以后还会涨。
 
这算什么,上次直接修漏气了

本来是不工作,后来打电话让他们来修,直接修漏气了,阀门都没关住就跑了。炉子是好了,整个屋子都是煤气味~~
 
就是说, 他们不搞那个歪门邪道了。是吗?
 
我去年在最冷的时候炉子打不着了,是点火器坏了,他们上门就要两百,然后再加parts和labor,总共花了四百。现在刚过了一年零一个月,那玩意又坏了,那不是抢钱吗。一个小小的点火器,要一百五十多,这还买不着,而且没有执照,理论上你也不能换(怕到时出事,保险公司不保)。这年头电子产品跟卖白菜价,这简单的家居维护却是狮子大开口。
 
They charge 3X as much as other gas repair company.

If you renting water tank from them, the best thing to do is to buy a tank from Home depo and have home depo install for you.
