OTTAWA — A poodle puppy left in a scorching hot car this week has led to a charge against the man who left it there.
The Ottawa Humane Society and police rushed to the parking lot of the St. Laurent Shopping Centre in the city’s east end on Monday at around 2:30 p.m. to rescue the dog.
The puppy was showing signs of heat exhaustion when they arrived at the car, which the Humane Society later measured as being 37 C.
They placed it in an air-conditioned car and gave it water once the owner returned to let it out.
Ottawa police later charged 19-year-old Steven Abou Assi with causing an animal to be in distress under the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on July 12, the Humane Society said.
