PSA: Do Not Drink Water Advisory in effect for Carp village communal well users
Ottawa – A precautionary Do Not Drink Water Advisory has been issued by Ottawa Public Health for users of the Carp communal well water system. This Advisory affects approximately 1,800 water users. Water being supplied by the municipal water system outside of the affected area and water from private well systems are not impacted and continues to be safe for consumption purposes and is not subject to this Advisory.
Residents affected by the advisory should not drink any water - even if it is boiled - until the City Ottawa provides further notice.
The City is determining what caused a decrease in water pressure that affected the system, and will test water samples when the well system is pressurized and returns to normal. A loss of pressure in the water distribution system can allow the leakage of groundwater, possibly containing microorganisms and other contaminants, through small holes and fissures in the water lines.
The duration of this advisory is in effect until further notice.
The City is distributing bottled water at the Carp Fairgrounds only to those residents affected by this advisory. Water will be distributed until 11 p.m. Sunday night. Distribution of water will resume at 8:00 am. on Monday.
This advisory is issued as a precaution and will be rescinded once Ottawa Public Health has been provided with notification that the results of sample analyses show the absence of contaminants in the water from the distribution system.
