“国际羽联的规则压根没有考虑周全;

“They (国际羽联) should have thought ahead and seen that this kind of situation might happen and thought what they could have done to avoid this situation and stop it happening again in the future,” Lin Dan, the world’s best men’s singles player, who is from China, said after winning a match Wednesday. “Think in the U.K., would your football team want to meet Spain in the first round? Athletes think for themselves and would have their best interests at heart.”

So many people are blinded by their romantic view of athletes "giving it their all" to realize that the round-robin style play implemented by the BWF to determine qualification doesn't actually reward athletes for "giving it their all." It penalizes them for it. For the Chinese badminton players, this was their situation: if you win the match, you play for gold or bronze. If you lose, you play for gold or silver. Any rule structure that allows this scenario is inherently broken. Athletes SHOULD be rewarded for giving it their all and they deserve a rule system to do this. Either redraw brackets after the preliminary rounds or play straight knockout from the start.
