Rideau Canal Skateway now open

OTTAWA — The Rideau Canal Skateway opened for the season Friday morning.

A 2.2 km stretch of the skateway, from the Bank Street Bridge to the Pretoria Bridge, opened for skating at 7 a.m. Jan. 18, the NCC said in a release.

The ice was bumpy and the air was cold.

Environment Canada forecasts a low of -20 C overnight, with Friday expected to bring a mix of sun and cloud and a high of -10 C.
