‘Furious Pete’ Ribfest pig-out leads to new pulled pork record
Metro/Joe Lofaro Peter Czerwinski, a.k.a Furious Pete on YouTube, set a record of eating 7.5 pounds of pulled pork in six minutes at the opening day of Sparks Street Ribfest.
There are a lot of things one can do in six minutes, but few are worthy of a Guinness World Record.
Peter Czerwinski, a man who was made famous on YouTube under the moniker Furious Pete, is on his way to entering the record books by eating 7.5 pounds of pulled pork in that timeframe at Ribfest Wednesday.
Not only that, he is said to have smashed a previous record of just over four pounds.
“I’m kind of feeling heavy right now,” said Czerwinski, after washing down the meat with several gulps of water.
With a fork wedged in his tight fist, five plates of saucy, pulled pork sat in front of him just before the countdown. Then, he unleashed his fury onto the first plate, wiped it clean, and then moved onto the next.
Just when you thought he could not fit any more meat into his mouth, he made room for another a scoop.
“Meat challenges are always hard…because it’s so heavy, it’s so dense and when it hits your stomach it just sits there.”
So, what are the consequences of eating that much meat?
“A night of a lot of meat sweats,” he said.
After conquering Ribfest, his next challenge is in Turkey; the country and not the meat.
“I’m trying to break my own record of the fastest time to eat a raw onion,” he said. “I hold the record of 43 seconds.”
Ottawa resident Jamie Prins tried his hand at competing against three other contestants in an amateur pig-out and wound up setting a personal record of eating two pounds of pulled pork in four minutes and 20 seconds.
“I didn’t quite use the shovel-half-a-pig-in-your-throat-at-one-time technique. I was more bite-by-bite,’ said Prins. “Until I saw I was getting close I dropped the fork in and went gorilla style.”
Ribfest runs through June 23.
