The designs for the new $5 and $10 polymer bills were unveiled months ago but the Bank of Canada has now released the polymer bills into circulation. The notes are expected to last 2.5 times longer than paper ones and are harder to counterfeit.
Each bill also represents a different part of Canadian history. The $5 bill symbolizes Canada's contribution to space exploration, depicting Canadarm 2 and Dextre on the back of the bill. The $10 bill pays tribute to Canada's railway, featuring the ceremonial last spike of the CP Railway.
