Ottawa's first winter storm of the season could hit the region Tuesday and Wednesday, Environment Canada announced in a special weather statement Monday morning.
"A major low pressure system originating from the Gulf of Mexico is expected to intensify and move towards the northeastern United States by Wednesday morning," the statement reads.
"Snow associated with this system is expected to start late in the day Tuesday or Tuesday night and continue into Wednesday."
The weather agency said that while exact amounts are uncertain, some areas may see more than 15 centimetres of snow with the risk of some freezing rain.
