Torstar News ServiceThe driver died after his car was ripped in half upon crashing into a pole early Saturday morning in Mississauga. Owing to an earllier pursuit by police the case is being handled by the Special Investigations Unit.
A man is dead after his car crashed into a pole after evading a police spot check in Mississauga, Ontario Provincial Police said.
OPP said the car ran past a spot check at about 6:20 a.m. Saturday morning on the ramp from the westbound lanes of Queen Elizabeth Way highway to Hurontario St.
Police gave chase, but stopped after a while due to public safety concerns.
Peel EMS said the vehicle then crashed near the intersection of Dundas and Hurontario Sts.
The car was split into half, and the man was left without vital signs and taken to Trillium Health Centre, EMS said.
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Dave Woodford the case is being handled by the province’s Special Investigations Unit, due to the police involvement via the earlier chase.
