Hi, I understand that the city crew is supposed to clean the snow on sidewalks, But if they do not come on time, do you clean the snow or just wait? The by-law says:
  • Owners/occupants are responsible for the removal of snow and ice from all sidewalks on their property and on roofs of buildings that may cause a safety hazard.

So you should remove the snow only when that may cause a safety hazard? If it is big snow, one can hardly walk on sidewalk, do you still need to clear the sidewalk or wait?

Thanks

Snow and ice

Snow and ice removal is regulated under the Property Maintenance By-law No. 2005-208, which also regulates the clearing and cleaning of refuse or debris. The following information provides an overview of this by-law, however if you would like more details, please refer to the actual by-law.

What does the by-law say?
  • Owners/occupants are responsible for the removal of snow and ice from all sidewalks on their property and on roofs of buildings that may cause a safety hazard.
  • If the ice can't be removed, apply gravel, salt or sand to help with its removal.
