Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak might get the last laugh after a photoshopped image of him strolling away from an exploding hospital was used in a Toronto-area Liberal candidate’s campaign door hangers.

The image, which puts Hudak in the place of the Joker from a scene in the Batman movie, The Dark Knight, was tweeted nearly a month ago by Postmedia reporter, Ishmael Daro. It also appears to have wound up on Steven Del Duca’s campaign material.

The attack ad, however, will not be a laughing matter for Liberal leader Kathleen Wynne, who is expected to be questioned about the flyer as she makes six stops in Toronto on Wednesday, leading up to election day. It is unknown how many flyers were circulated.

Del Duca, who is a candidate in Vaughan, also tweeted an apology to Hudak on Wednesday. He said: “@timhudak Please accept my apology. The flyer was a mistake for which I am sorry. #onpoli #voteon

In bold blue letters, the door hanger asks, “Do you trust Tim Hudak and the Ontario PCs with your future?” then lists bullet points about how the Liberals claim Hudak’s policies would affect public service jobs, education, tuition costs and transportation.

Polls are open Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
