General purpose white lithium grease. You can buy spray can at Canadian Tire. Never use silicone base lubricant or WD40!

I use Jig-a-Loo Lubricant (http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/j...ig-a-loo-lubricant-0381551p.html#.U6Bjma13u70) which was recommended by the installer of my garage opener.

Jig-a-Loo or just waste engine oil from you mower or snow blower.
Using Jig-a-Loo, be sure to use one paper board behind the spring to avoid mess after spray.

Be very careful. It's silicon base!
