The Ottawa RedBlacks’ home opener sold out a month ago, but on Thursday football-fevered fans could still find tickets online – if you were willing to pay … and act fast.

StubHub’s deals ranged from a single ticket in Section J of the north stands, beyond the end zone, that was listed at $167 U.S. (face value: $27.88) to three field-level tickets going for $450 U.S. each.

The website ticketstoget.com had about a dozen tickets Thursday morning ranging from $125 to $336 each for a pair of “Club” tickets in Section 109 on the south side. By mid-afternoon, half had been sold, including the pair of Club seats.

One kijiji seller was asking $5,000 for five seats “all in a row.” The ad didn’t say where the seats were.

Retired businessman Ken Dale had maybe the best offer of all – one that will get you into the game and help avoid the expected traffic mayhem. Dale, who already has four seasons tickets of his own, posted on kijiji that he was selling two extra seats that he’d bid on at a golf tournament. For $350, you get the Row 10 south side tickets and a trip to the game on Dale’s 50-foot cabin cruiser.

“I think using the boat as a taxi is kind of fun,” said Dale.

Ken Dale, a retired Ottawa businessman, was selling two tickets to the RedBlacks’ home opener that included a lift to the game aboard his 50-foot cabin cruiser. Dale said he was giving money from the sale to charity.

He sails from the Dow’s Lake marina and will moor along the canal near Fifth Avenue, as he used to do for other Ottawa home games. The nautical entrance will beat the traffic and parking problems around the stadium.

“That parking thing – it’s going to be like pushing a string uphill,” he said.

Dale is “pumped” for the return of football to Lansdowne.

“I sat with my Dad in the south side for 20 or 30 years,” he said. “My new tickets are on the north side, so that’s going to feel a little strange.”

Dale plans top give money from the kijiji sale to charity.
