About two dozen children and half a dozen adults at a Nepean school were treated Thursday for what appears to have been a case of food poisoning at a summer camp.

Ottawa paramedics were called to St. Cecilia elementary school on Cambrian Road around 3 p.m. after reports that numerous children, along with a few adults, had become sick following their lunch-hour meal. Six ambulance crews, as well as fire department crews, responded.

As paramedics treated those suffering nausea and, in some cases, vomiting, firefighters checked the school building to see if it was at fault. The presence of carbon monoxide or some system failure was quickly ruled out, and attention turned to the possibility of food poisoning.

“We kind of suspect food poisoning,” paramedic spokesman J.P. Trottier said.

More to come.
