School assistant charged with sex assault
A public school teacher assistant accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy, appears in court Tuesday afternoon for a bail hearing.
Cops charged the woman Monday, following an investigation into allegations dating back to September, 2011.
Katherine Kitts, 44, of Ottawa has been charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and telecommunication with person under 18 for specific criminal offences.
Kathy Kitts was listed online earlier this year as an educational assistant at Sir Robert Borden High School. The Ottawa Carleton District School Board issued a brief statement Tuesday morning.
Court files show she is accused of having a sexual relationship with the student between April 11, 2012, and April 11, 2014.
"The OCDSB is cooperating fully with police to assist in their investigation. The accused has been placed on leave while the investigation is underway. Our primary focus is the safety and well-being of our students and staff and the district will make resources and supports available to those in need."
Cops say the young man was 15 when the alleged relationship started and won't comment about how suspicions began.
Sources say messages between the suspect and the alleged victim were discovered and investigators were told the young man required help with his school work, and sexual favours were being requested for the extra guidance.
None of these accusations have been proven in court.
The school board indicated it will not b e making any further comments while the police investigation continues.
