Members of OC Transpo’s largest union are poised for pay increases of two per cent in each of the next three years and 2.25 per cent in the final year of a four-year deal, according to details released Monday.

“Everything else (in the contract) is basically status quo,” according to an OC Transpo employee who did not want to be named.

The contract extension would be in place from 2016 to 2020.

Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 279, which represents OC Transpo and Para Transpo drivers, will vote on the contract offer on Wednesday and Thursday.

The union held a meeting on Monday to go over the offer with its members; another meeting was to be held Monday evening.

Some OC Transpo employees described the first meeting as “raucous” and noted some members voiced disappointment over the process and were upset that they were not given a chance to provide input to the negotiating team.

The development comes days after bargaining teams for the City of Ottawa and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 279 announced that the two sides reached a tentative agreement almost a year before the current contract is set to expire on March 31, 2016.

Asked for details about how he secured a mandate from city council to enter negotiations with the drivers’ union so early, OC Transpo general manager John Manconi declined to comment.

“I can’t speak about anything related to the contract,” he said Monday in an email.
