WATCH ABOVE: Alberta could be on the verge of having an NDP premier if a new poll is to be believed. Jenna Freeman reports.
CALGARY – A new poll shows the NDP continuing to gain support across the province just days before the provincial election.
Mainstreet Technologies released the results of their final election poll on Friday.
The national research firm used Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology to survey 3,143 Albertans across the province on the night of April 29th, with a combination of land lines and cellular phones.
They found NDP support had increased by 14% compared to their last poll on April 23rd. The poll suggests Rachel Notley’s campaign now has the support of 33% of decided voters.
The poll saw support for all other parties drop by about 2% from their previous poll.
The poll suggests 73% of decided voters in Edmonton will vote for the NDP, while only 35% of decided voters in Calgary will support the party.
Outside of Edmonton and Calgary, the NDP lead with 39% of the vote, over the Wildrose (33%) and PCs (22%).
However, when asked which party Albertans think will actually win the election on May 5th, most respondents said the PCs (32%) followed closely by the NDP (29%).
The poll also found 14% of respondents still hadn’t decided who they would vote for.
