In the past few weeks, after careful consideration and reading every major parties platform, I voted on Saturday in the advanced polling. Before, I list the reasons why I did not vote for the Conservatives, I strongly encourage everyone who has a vote to go out and vote regardless of who you support.
As for the reasons as to why I didn't vote for the Conservatives, the main reason wasn't due to policy but rather what I see as a disregard for transparency and the erosion of democracy. In order for a democratic to society to function, people must have faith in the rule of law and free discourse in thinking. However, for this government who promised transparency and holding the government more accountable when elected, I do not see that. Instead, over the past 10 years in power, I see a government that tries to silence voices from the government scientists to the PBO (Parliamentary Budget Office), using illegal activities in the last election trying to gain an advantage and the centralization of power to the PMO (Prime Minister Office) so that he can try to control everything.
People can have different opinions on a variety of positions. We can have rational dialogue about these issues. However, when a party or a leader is so consumed by power that he wants to control everything such that he is corrupted by it. Then, I think it is time for a change of government.
