Can’t make it to the ‘Peg for Sunday’s big game?
The Ottawa Redblacks are inviting fans to watch the 103rd Grey Cup for free on the giant screen in the Arena at TD Place.
Ottawa makes its first appearance since 1981 in the CFL final on Sunday, thanks to the Redblacks’ stunning 93-yard touchdown pass in the dying minutes of the East Division Championship against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. As in 1981, the opponent will be the Edmonton Eskimos when the clubs meet at Winnipeg’s 32,000-seat Investors’ Group Field.
Doors to the Redblacks’ Grey Cup Viewing Party open at 5 p.m. and kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. All concessions will be open. The arena seats 10,000 and features a 32-foot high-def video screen.
Tickets are free, but must be ordered in advance at www.capitaltickets.ca. Prepaid on site parking is available for $15 on the same website.
Your ticket also gives you a free ride with OC Transpo, although the regular Lansdowne game-day shuttles won’t be operating.
Want to see the Grey Cup live? Ticketmaster was offering up a pair of tickets in the third row on the 40-yard line as “best available” on Monday afternoon. The cost? $499 each. The cheapest ticket — a bleacher seat in the “Skyview Endzone” — sells for $175. The Redblacks tweeted Monday afternoon that only about 1,000 tickets remained for the game. (Tickets at StubHub.com were still available late Monday, starting at $100.)
A roundtrip Saturday to Monday flight on Westjet will set you back about $1,300. If economy matters more than speed, for $229 Greyhound’s 10 a.m. bus from Ottawa Friday will get you to Winnipeg one day and 10 hours later, arriving Saturday night at 7:45 p.m.
And dress warmly. The forecast for Winnipeg Sunday calls for sunshine and a high of -5 C.
“See you in Winnipeg!” the Winnipeg Blue Bombers tweeted on Monday to Redblacks and Eskimos fans. “PS – bring your parkas.”
