Hi,

I chatted with my Chinese colleagues at lunch time today and one topic we had is if there is any Chinese people (retired or not working) would like to cook meals for other working Chinses family
so that they don't have to cook supper at home. She said that she knew an old couple before (not here) who enjoyed cooking and provided such service, the charge is C$20 for three dishes and a soup and they pick up the meals before going home. I feel that's a pretty good idea. Anyone agree?

如果自己煮的话一顿哪儿用$20? 每个月要花上$20*30=$600, 而且还只是FOR SUPER ONLY.

我个人觉得不值.

Sorry, not including the weekend. You can cook or go out to eat on weekends. So it's $400 a month, and for that couple as I heard, they even include the material, which means you don't have to buy grocery. But I feel that's too good. For some families in which both work and have kids, cooking, especially cooking Chinese food, sometime is not enjoyable thing to do everyday as you all know cooking Chinese take a lot of time to prepare. But we all like Chinese food for sure. So instead of going out to eat in fastfood chain or res, which could cost you more and not that healthy, I feel people would prefer such catering service. You can take leftover for next day's lunch, so it means not only supper, but lunch included as well. As one of the post says,if you can cook together for 4-5 families, that's quite good money, and it only takes you maybe half a day to do that.

I just feel that as so many people are out of work now and there are so many parents visiting or immigrating here. That is definitely a good business initial. It's much cheap than running a res.

这就赚翻沟里了,那能呀?4家一晚才80元,若赚一半也就40元/天,一个月21天合共只获利21*40=$840,交房租还不够呢!

Come on, that's not full time job. Those grocery won't cost you that amount money, You won't spend that long time on food preparing and cooking. It won't take long time to cook for extra 2, 3 family. So Even thought. Let's say spend on 2 hours for each day and earn $40. You will get at least $20/hour rate. Don't you think a bookkeeper can get that those rate?

It sounds like a great idea to me. Are you thinking of providing such services? When you get it going, include me in your customer list.

I am not planning to do that by myself as I am working now. But I do feel that it's a good idea and if someone like to do it, I could get some customers from my colleagues.

That's exactly the point. For those retired people, who like to cook. It's a good way to make some money as anyway they may have to cook for their own family. The price or other issues can be negotiable and if you cook for a number of families, you cook together. Just like our old Shi(2) Tang(2) in China. You don't need a liscence like opening a res and you don't have to pay tax (as it's not a formal business). And you don't have to go anywhere but just do that from your home. As I know a lot of working families are tired of cooking as they have other issues to deal with like kids, but eating in Res cost more and may not be healthy (like fast food res). Also now more
Chinese live very closeby like in Centerpoint or Kanata. So this kind of service should be quite convenient. You jsuy have to make a menu for each week and when finishing cook, put them in container and wait for people coming to pick up.
