Current:
• Profoundly Gifted
specialized program for
Primary students (grades 1-
4, English only)
Proposed:
• Regular class placement for
primary students with focus on
IEP
accommodations/modifications
and support for classroom
teachers

Grades 5-6
Current:
• Gifted specialized program
class for Junior students
(grades 5-6, English and
Early French Immersion
programs)
proposed:
• Gifted Specialized Intervention
Program (Gifted SIP) for twice
exceptional students (grades
5/6)
• Profoundly Gifted specialized
program (grades 5/6)
• Gifted Program for Inquiry,
grades 5/6
For me, the major changes are two, no specialized class for grade 1-4, and the teacher will have more power to determine if the kids are Gifted or not ( not only the test results) . The latter should already started based on what I heard.
The key drivers for the board/trustee decisions may be:
Well-being; Equity of access; Learning (and of course underpinning it all are the budget pressures that must be resolved by Sep 2017).
Trustees would be interested in hearing how things have worked in the regular classroom or other forms (eg private school; other boards) with respect to the specific well-being of your child.
