No need to worry about the swarms of first responders who will be at Ottawa airport Thursday night — it’s just a drill.

About 120 first responders and others will take part in the exercise, which is expected to get underway some time after 7 p.m. and wrap up around 11 p.m.

“Most of it will be sequestered away from the main passenger area, but people may see some of them walking around,” said airport spokeswoman Krista Kealey.

Several emergency vehicles will also be parked outside, she said.

The airport has taken to social media to alert the public and announcements will be made over the airport’s public address system.

The airport is required by Transport Canada to conduct the annual exercise to test its emergency response system and policies. Kealey would not reveal details of the drill.

“We never say what it is in advance. Even some people here at the airport don’t know what it’s going to be.”
