Tuesday morning’s commute is pretty much smooth sailing but snow mixed with ice pellets are expected to make for a bumpier ride home with more snow and freezing drizzle overnight.

School buses are running in Ottawa but both the Upper Canada District School Board and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario have cancelled transportation because of the freezing rain forecast. Schools remain open.

The city’s traffic centre reported shortly after 7 a.m. that Piperville Road was closed from Anderson Road to Farmers Way just west of Carlsbad Springs due to a double-decker OC Transpo bus on fire.

OC Transpo was reporting a technical glitch that resulted in the MyTransit app and 560560 providing departure times that are not adjusted by real-time GPS data.

Environment Canada is predicting increasing cloudiness Tuesday and precipitation beginning by late afternoon. The high is forecast to be -2C.

Overnight, expect a low of -4C with snow and ice pellets totalling two to four cm.

The forecast for Wednesday is for periods of freezing drizzle or flurries and a high of -1C.

Thursday is expected to feature a morning low of -3C before the mercury rises to a high of 3C with a 30 per cent chance of flurries.

It’s expected to barely dip below freezing overnight with a forecast high of 2C Friday.
