In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, the Citizen is rolling out one fact each day for 150 days until July 1, highlighting the odd, the fascinating and the important bits of Ottawa history you might not know about.
The Sonar, a boat used in the Paralympics and world championships by sailors with disabilities, was designed by Ottawa resident Bruce Kirby. Along with the Sonar, Kirby has also designed other popular boats such as Ideal 18 and the Laser, the latter of which first sailed in the Olympic Games in 1996.
