Traffic impacts in Ottawa as a result of special events and upcoming road work

Upcoming road work project will have the following impacts on Ottawa traffic:

  • Old Montreal Road and Dunning Road – Dunning Road between Brickland Drive and Wilhaven Drive, and Old Montreal Road between Cox Country Road and Famille-Laporte Avenue, will both be reduced to a single lane with alternating traffic during off-peak periods, from Monday, September 18 until the end of October. Sections of Cox Country Road will also be impacted due to this work. The lane reductions are due to the paving of shoulders and road resurfacing to provide a cycling and pedestrian connection between the Village of Cumberland and the Trim Road Transitway Station and Old Montreal Road. Flag persons will be on site controlling traffic during the construction.
  • Culvert work in Greely and Osgoode – Due to culvert replacements, the following roads will be closed:
    • Osgoode Main Street will be closed just east of River Road from Monday, September 18 to Friday, September 22
    • Dozois Road will be closed 1.8 km south of Mitch Owens Road from Monday, September 25 to Friday, September 29
    • Rideau Road – 0.05 km west of Ramsayville Road will be closed from Monday, October 2 to Friday, October 6
    • River Road - 0.15 km south of Osgoode Main Street will be closed from Monday, October 9 to Friday, October 13
  • Phelan Road West – Phelan Road West will be closed just east of Prince of Wales Drive, Monday, September 18 to Friday, September 29 due to a culvert replacement. Access will be provided for local residents.
  • Fallowfield Road – Fallowfield Road will be closed between Merivale Road and Prince of Wales for road reconstruction work beginning Friday, September 22 at 7 p.m. until Monday, September 25 at 5 a.m.
  • Montreal Road – Montreal Road between Vanier Parkway and North River will have lane closures for sanitary sewer rehabilitation work between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. beginning Monday, September 18 until Thursday, September 21.

With major special events happening on the weekend, motorists are advised to plan their travels with these events, and their traffic impacts, in mind:

  • Due to the Freedom of the City march, there will be some traffic impacts downtown including Queen Elizabeth Drive at Somerset Street to the National Arts Centre will be closed to traffic from 8 to 11:30 a.m. the north and southbound lanes of Elgin Street, from Lisgar Street to Laurier Avenue, will be closed by Ottawa Police from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Rolling street closures will continue as the parade marches off. The route will run along Elgin Street from Lisgar Street to Cooper Street, Cooper Street to Cartier Street, Cartier Street to Lisgar Street and then back onto Elgin Street and the eastbound lane of Laurier Avenue West.
  • As a result of the Canada Army Run there will be major traffic impacts, road closures and rolling street closures this weekend. Visit their web site to obtain all information on road closures.
  • As a result of the Remixed Festival, Somerset Street West will be closed between Bay Street and Percy Street from 9 a.m. to midnight, Saturday, September 16.
  • As a result of CityFolk this weekend, there will be some traffic impacts around Lansdowne. Ticket holders are encouraged to use transit, bike or walk. Parking at and around Lansdowne will be limited. Tickets can be used to ride free on OC Transpo three hours before and up to three hours after the event.
