Shopping

LCBO

All LCBO stores will be open during normal business hours on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, with extended store hours until Dec. 31.

ByWard Market

The more than 600 independent businesses are responsible for their own hours, which will vary by location, the ByWard Market BIA said. The outdoor market is closed on Christmas Day, with regular hours on Dec. 24 and Dec. 26.

The Heart and Crown will host a “dinner for the less fortunate” on Christmas Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. After dinner, the business will be open for regular service until 2 a.m.

The call centre is open 24/7 year-round, including statutory holidays.

Rural client service centres will be closed on various dates throughout the holidays. Look online for details.

Provincial offences court

Provincial court offices are closed on statutory holidays.

Compost, recycling and garbage collection

There is no pickup scheduled for Christmas Day. Ottawans can expect service delays by one day for the rest of the week, with Saturday as a makeup day.

Parking

All parking regulations and restrictions imposed by the City of Ottawa apply on statutory holidays. Don’t forget to watch for winter parking bans issued for snow clearing. When snow bans are in effect, residents can park overnight for free at city-run parking garages.

Public Transit

Transit will be running, but with reduced service on Dec. 24 to Dec. 26. Expect similar service as on most Sundays.

The transit information line will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The public is advised to call 613-741-4390 or check online for specific route details.

Para Transpo

Call the booking offices at 613-244-7272 to arrange for transportation on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Ottawa Public Health

Mental Health Crisis line

If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis, you can call the crisis line to speak with someone 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 613-722-6914 or 1-866-996-0991.

Ottawa Public Health Information Line

The information line will be closed on statutory holidays. The public can still call and leave a message at 613-580-6744, 613-580-9656 (TTY) and 1-866-426-8885 (toll-free).

To report a public health emergency after hours and on statutory holidays, the city’s website indicates to call 311, 613-580-2400, or 613-580-2401 (TTY) and ask for the Public Health Officer on call. For emergencies only, call 911.

Telehealth Ontario

Free, confidential over-the-phone health advice is available toll-free anytime at 1-866-797-0000 and 1-866-797-0007 (TTY).

Ottawa Public Library services

All library branches, departments and services are closed from Christmas Eve until after Boxing Day.
