Winter mix.
It sounds like something you could dance to but it’s set to make a mess of Monday.
Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning with light snow forecast to become heavier then mix with ice pellets by afternoon then get a final glaze of freezing rain, which is expected to fall into Tuesday. A total of 2-4 cm of snow and ice pellets is forecast to fall as the temperature holds steady at -6 C.
Roads and sidewalks will likely be slick on the Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning commutes, the weather agency warns. Ice build-ups may cause tree branches to snap and power outages are a possibility.
For Monday, the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority reports that all buses are running but “there might be some delays.” Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario has cancelled all buses ahead of the “significant system” of snow then freezing rain set to arrive by early afternoon. The Renfrew County Joint Consortium has also cancelled school buses.
The freezing rain will likely switch to plain old rain early Tuesday as temperatures climb to a forecast 2 C.
In some areas – including the Ottawa Valley – it may stick around into Tuesday afternoon.
All transportation has been cancelled for today Monday January 22, 2018. A significant system is forecast to move into the region in the early afternoon. Snow is initially expected in the afternoon with the addition of freezing rain during mid-to-late afternoon.
