Patrick Brown resigns as Ontario PC leader after sexual misconduct allegations
CBC.ca - 2 hours ago
Two women reported to CTV that Brown engaged in sexual misconduct during his time as a politician, which Brown denied. At the time of the alleged incidents, both women say they were drunk and Brown was sober.
It will be chaotic for a while but PC Ontario will pull out victorious eventually, and most importantly, with a true conservative leadership.
First I want to say these allegations are false. Categorically untrue. Every one of them. I will defend myself as hard as I can, with all means at my disposal. It’s never okay. It’s never okay for anybody -- for anyone -- to feel they have been a victim of sexual harassment, or feel threatened in any way. Let me make this clear: a safe and respectful society is what we expect and deserve,” Brown said.
"These allegations are false and have been difficult to hear," said Brown in a statement issued just before 1:30 a.m. ET.
"However, defeating [Ontario Premier] Kathleen Wynne in 2018 is more important than one individual. For this reason, after consulting with caucus, friends and family I have decided to step down as Leader of the Ontario PC Party. I will remain on as a MPP while I definitively clear my name from these false allegations."
